BASELINE SURVEY
Evidence movement
Initial observation — no prior comparable baseline linked

Evidence-bearing shared maintenance slice; strong generic occurrence evidence, low programme distinctiveness.

Why it sits here

This is an empirical maintenance claim with direct physiological exemplars. Ion homeostasis during starvation and redox-supported non-growth metabolism provide bounded mechanisms [S37,S38]. They establish instances of the stated capacity, without supplying an unspecified programme mechanism or a chemistry-to-life explanation.

Principal uncertainty

The exact future mechanism and operational meaning of maintained organisation remain unspecified. S38 was assessed from its repository abstract, limiting evaluation of controls. S37 supports ion-homeostasis maintenance through several perturbations, but its cell-size experiment does not distinguish surface-to-volume scaling from a constant death rate; the detailed model is less settled than the generic capacity [S37,S38].

What would change the view?

Reassess after nomination of a particular exchange, comparator and outcome, especially if claims extend beyond cellular maintenance or conflict with arrest-based survival.
