BASELINE SURVEY
Evidence movement
Initial observation — no prior comparable baseline linked

Strong evidence for the scoped ecological phenomenon; low programme discrimination. Do not transfer maturity to unspecified CGS mechanisms.

Why it sits here

Microbial environmental mediation and plant–soil conditioning supply direct operational counterparts to this existential claim. They do not require a universal feedback law or adaptive benefit. Niche-construction debates concern explanatory organization as well as phenomena; disagreement about theoretical novelty does not negate ecological feedback [S65, S66, S67].

Principal uncertainty

The row specifies no organism, persistence threshold or unique programme prediction. Short-term causal feedback does not establish cross-generation ecological inheritance, subsequent evolution, a general retained-history mechanism or cognition. Environmental alteration and evolutionary response are separable even in advocate presentations of niche construction [S65,S67,S68].

What would change the view?

Consider focused review only after a specific comparator and outcome are nominated, especially if long-term ecological inheritance or a novel prediction is added.
